TVNOC Strontian 9/05/26

Our first camping trip of the year, was to the annual Tay Valley Norton Owners Club gathering, in Strontian on the Ardnamuchan peninsula. Thankfully the weather forecast had improved by the weekend, and we got a dry run there and back. Not being peak holiday season, meant that the roads, especially through Glencoe weren't heaving with tourists and camper vans. There were a few sets of roadworks though, but at getting stopped at one of them, looking up in the sky, we saw a paraglider soaring in the thermals way above the mountains, what an experience that would be. Approaching the Corran ferry, we caught up on a group of French guys touring Scotland over 6 days on Mobylettes, I did get speaking with one of them, who said that the back up van was somewhere behind, and was needed because his exhaust had fallen off earlier that day. It looked like they were having a great laugh, but I'm not ready to downgrade my 120 bhp just yet. After we got the tent up, and had a good blether with some of the guys, we walked along the road to the Strontian Hotel for beers and food, great company and lots of laughs. We hadn't reckoned on it being such a cold night, it's been a long time since I've had to wear layers and a tammy in the tent, the bikes were all frosted up in the morning. We had a leisurely morning drinking tea with more blethers, packing up the bikes wasn't too much of a hardship once we had warmed up. It was an uneventful sunny run home through stunning scenery, with both of us in our element. Thanks to David T. for organising the camping weekend, and the great weather.
