6.67 mile River Garry Bridge and Linn of Tummel Circuit Walk 03/01/18

Our first long walk of 2018 was the 6.67 mile circuit of the Rivers Garry and Tummel and Loch Faskally. A much needed clear the heid and fresh air walk while the weather stayed dry and bright. We started by parking in the River Garry Bridge carpark North of Pitlochry then down the steps under the Garry Bridge, no bungee jumping for us thankfully, following the Garry river to the Tummel River and the Linn(e) of Tummel (Gaelic for deep pool ) waterfalls for some long exposure photos, well worth a visit. We kept following the path along the Tummel River to the Coronation Bridge, crossing the bridge onto the B8019 for 2.2 miles to the Clunie footbridge passing Clunie power station on the way, crossing the River Tummel to the site of the old Bridge of Clunie where we stopped for some hot chocolate (in a flask) and much needed eats. Still following the river path around the base of Dunmore Hill and on towards Faskally House, the path skirts around the estate grounds and leads back under the Garry Bridge where we crossed the River Garry on another bridge then turning left to the steps at the Garry Bridge, a most excellent walk , not too busy at this time of year, not the best signposting all the way but taking a map and a bit of homework prior to the walk should see you round.

Entrance to Clunie Power Station memorial arch is a replica of the cross section of the tunnel which connects the power station to Clunie Dam. The arch commemorates the death of 5 men during the construction of the tunnel when lightning struck a face where a live charge had just been laid.

Priests Stone, this is a local carved stone and is presently located 50 yards south of the ruins of Chapelton of Clunie, near which was the site of a chapel. Originally the stone was situated alongside an old road that ran along the banks of the River Tummel
